Every Day is a New Beginning

Tonight I learned of a very worthwhile challenge/hop going on - The Hop To Stop.  This is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Did you know that 1 in 3 women will experience domestic violence over the course of their lifetimes?  I, unfortunately am 1 of the 3.  When I was 18 I made one of the dumbest choices of my life.  I married an abusive man.  I was very week minded and very easily cowed.  This man nearly killed me at least three times.  He not only abused me physically, but also abused me verbally and sexually.  I have a scar on my thumb from stopping a knife from going into my throat that reminds me every day not to EVER let myself be put in that situation again.  Because of this history I find it extremely difficult to allow anyone to be emotionally close to me.  What happened to me when I was 18 still effects me 28 years later.  Needless to say, I find this hop a VERY worthwhile thing to do!

Please know I'm not telling this piece of my history for sympathy.  I believe that God allows things to happen to us so that we can not only learn from them but so that we can help others through the same or similar situations.  I have two tattoos on my body.  Both are butterflies.  Butterflies are a reminder to me that every day is a new beginning!  Take what you learn from life and bring it to the next day with the hope that your higher power, be it God, Buddha, Jahova or whomever it is you follow will show you how to use it for good.

The hop to stop has so many fantastic sponsors...check this out!

Karen, your card is gorgeous. Everyone has a story and you are an amazing woman. I am glad that you are such a strong person and that you share your story so hopefully others will learn and get out of such devastating situations. There are good people and men, but still be cautious just know they are out there.

I just want you to know that today in little ol' North Dakota you have someone sending you BIG HUGS and AWESOME THOUGHTS your way. I, too, met my ex when I was young (and dumb) at the age of 19. I'm so glad you're out of that relationship and so glad that you've managed to transfer that emotion into such a beautiful card - it's colored amazingly! Thank you SO much for joining in at the Hop to Stop and for being brave enough to share your story.

What an adorable card and fantastic coloring and background paper and the embellishments added, and the sentiment is so fitting for this cause.

Thank you for sharing your story - I teared up as I read it. I witnessed my mother being beaten by my birth father when I was very young and luckily she had the courage to take my brother and I and get out. Your card is so beautiful - I love the sweet image, the flowers, and all the bling. The butterflies and the sentiment say a lot. I'm glad you joined the hop.
